Defend the Republic Rally Being Held in Denver

The friends of the Colorado Republican candidate for Governor, Dan Maes, have organized the Defend the Republic Rally this Saturday, December 12 at 1-2 pm on the west steps of the Colorado Capitol in Denver.

This rally is being held in light of the recent developments in the race, with Josh Penry dropping our of the race.  Penry and Tom Tancredo have both endorsed Scott McInnis after McInnis committed himself to the Platform for Prosperity.

McInnis has been portrayed by many new conservative activists as the sort of Republican candidate that has caused many of the problems for the GOP at the state and national level.  These same activists are demanding a voice in the candidate selection process, beginning with the caucuses in March through the Colorado GOP state party convention, to select a candidate who more closely holds their values and views on the role of government.

Speaking at the Defend the Republic Rally will be Lu Busse, Jerry Denny, Nancy Rumfelt, Leslie Hollywood, Max Brewster, Freda Poundstone, Dan Maes, and Mike Holler.

Rob McNealy kicked off his campaign for United State Congress to represent Colorado Congressional District 6 this week a the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce.  Rob McNealy will be challenging Republican incumbent Mike Coffman for the 2010 election.

Here’s the interesting part: Rob McNealy is running as a Libertarian candidate for Congress.

Yes, a Libertarian.

I attended his campaign kickoff since he’s a personal friend of mine.  Rob has spoken at Colorado Teaparties and has proclaimed the Constitution is his guide to being successful as a Congressman.  What most people, or at least those with any inkling of conservative leaning will realize as they look at issues facing our nation is that they have a very libertarian slant.  We used the little ‘l’ on purpose so as not to threaten people with being placed into the big ‘L’ camp.

In addition to being a business owner, Rob is somewhat a big deal on the social media scene, so it was fitting that his formal announcement was via Twitter, a first as far as I know.

After the formal announcement, which was streaming live on UStream, Rob fielded questions from the 50 person audience and the Internet.  Rob’s ability to address and articulate issues facing our nation within a Constitutional framework are what makes him a great candidate for Congress.

The campaign is fully aware of the challenges facing a third party candidate and promised to have a lot in store for the people of Colorado throughout the next year to make him a credible challenge to Mike Coffman and any Democratic challengers.

Welcome to Taxorado

Riding east on I-70 from Grand Junction this past weekend, we passed a large sign in field that I found amusing.  It was set on the green mountain and white sky background found on the Colorado license plate with the word:

Governor Ritter Welcome You To:

TAXORADO

Just think of that the next tie your paying your Colorado taxes, fees, fines and such.

I was at the Republican National Committee (RNC) sponsored Say It Out Loud presentation this past Friday in Denver.Teaparty Protester

There was a good mix of folks there, from the Peoples’ Press Collective, R Block Party, 9/12, as well as more traditional supporters of the GOP.

It’s fair to say many conservatives and independents are angry and the 2008 election demonstrates that.  That’s why we’ve seen the rise of conservative activism outside the party structure and why people are now more engaged in supporting candidates that support their values first and party second (or even third). Progressives Spinning Facts for Health Care Reform

October 26, 2009

They’re at it again.
Today’s Huffington Post continues down the road of “lies and distortions” the freedom and liberty minded folks are typically the ones blazing the trail on.  Author and Co-Director of the Campaign for America’s Future Roger Hickey cites the recent Washington Post article “New Life for the Public Option” in stating support for [...]

New Health Care Reform Video

October 13, 2009

In all the talk about health care reform, it can get confusing what the future would look like.  Here’s a fun video on health care reform where the public plan becomes a public plane and competes on the private market.

Make sure the private planes can still fly!

Hate Crime Bill Hidden in 2010 National Defense Authorization Act

October 11, 2009

I received an email today from Representative Diana DeGette touting new federal hate crimes legislation included in the National Defense Authorization Act that was just passed by the House of Representatives.  The conference committee that negotiated the House and Senate versions of the National Defense Authorization Act decided to slip this unrelated piece of legislation [...]

Diana DeGette’s Attempted Facebook Wall Chat About Health Care Leaves Questions Unanswered

September 2, 2009

Colorado Congresswomen Diana DeGette (D – CO District 1) held a Health Care Town Hall chat today on her Facebook page.  What promised to be an interesting experiment to reach out to a younger demographic, who tend to be more supportive of the progressive agenda, wasn’t an effective medium at all.  There were a lot [...]

Massachusetts to Jerry Rig Senate Replacement Process to Fill Kennedy’s Seat?

September 1, 2009

This isn’t an issue that Coloradans have much input in but will definitely have an effect on the current debates in Congress, such as health care reform and the pending Cap and Tax energy bill.
